What is chiropractic?
"A holistic approach to health
Chiropractic is a primary health care profession with a holistic approach to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of neuromuscular disorders without drugs or surgery.
Chiropractic is based on the premise that good health depends on the normal functioning of the nervous system.
the chiropractor seeks to balance the body and improve the alignment of the spineThis will allow your nervous system to function better and create less interference, resulting in the proper functioning of all your systems. This will allow your nervous system to function better and create less interference, which will result in the proper functioning of all your systems.
Chiropractic can be used to prevent back pain, headaches and migraines. Although the chiropractor's main focus is on the spineHe is also trained in areas that have a direct impact on your nervous system, such as nutrition, exercise and lifestyle, which will improve your overall well-being.
The benefits of chiropractic treatment include improved mobility and flexibility, reduced swelling and inflammation, pain relief, improved posture and body mechanics.
How chiropractic works
The chiropractor uses spinal manipulation, called chiropractic adjustment, to correct vertebral subluxations (misalignments) by hand or, in some cases, with a chiropractic adjustment instrument.
These subluxations are often associated with irritated nerves and other problems throughout the body that contribute to pain and discomfort.
Chiropractic adjustments improve blood circulation, reduce muscle tension or spasms, increase movement between vertebrae that may have been limited by injury or arthritis, and increase range of motion in the joints.
Spinal adjustments can also cause muscles to relax, making breathing easier.
The majority of people who get adjusted notice an improvement in their symptoms, including less pain and/or better mobility.
"By getting adjusted regularly, you will notice a difference in the energy you have during the day and better sleep at night!"
The history of chiropractic
"A profession that wasn't born yesterday."
Chiropractic has been around for over a hundred years. The first chiropractor, Dr. Daniel David Palmer, opened his practice in 1895 in Davenport, Iowa. Shortly after his founding, Chiropractic gained popularity and acceptance as an alternative treatment in the western world. It became a recognized profession in 1895 and was officially licensed by the State of California to practice chiropractic medicine in 1927.
The word "chiropractic" comes from two Greek words, kheir (hand) and praxis (action), which together mean "done by hand" To practice ChiropracticIn order to diagnose, treat and prevent neuromuscular disorders, a health care professional must be specially trained in the use of the hands.
There are many chiropractic techniques, but most involve manual manipulation or adjustment of the spine to restore movement and normal alignment. These adjustments restore mobility, improve nerve function and reduce pain.
The nervous system
Fundamentals of the human nervous system
The nervous system is a complex and vital organ responsible for communication and regulation of the body.
It allows the coordination and interaction of all the cells and tissues of the body, as well as the connection with the outside world: eyes, ears, nose, mouth, skin and motor skills.
The brain sends impulses along specific nerves to various parts of the body via the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). These signals then return to the brain or act locally, telling the organs in a given area what to do at a given time.
The nerves, gigantic communication networks measuring nearly 150,000 km, are like wires through which information flows to and from the brain, allowing us to control things like blood pressure, skin temperature, sweat production or the feeling of hunger without having to think about it first.
There are different types of nerves: sensory and motor.
-
The sensory nerves transmit impulses from the senses (such as taste, touch, temperature and pain) to the brain so that we can understand our environment.
- The motor nerves send information from the brain to the muscles or glands so that we can move and produce secretions as needed.
When a sensory nerve is affected by a problem in its corresponding area, symptoms such as pain or numbness result. For example, if the optic nerve is affected, you will have difficulty seeing, if the olfactory nerve is affected, you will have a decreased sense of smell, and if the sciatic nerve is affected you will have difficulty moving.
The body is sensitive to various physical (falls, shocks, birth, back problems), chemical (pollution, toxins) or emotional (various environmental or family factors) aggressions.
When the body is not able to handle the stresses it is under, there are consequences. One of these consequences can be subluxation, which is an alteration of the nervous system. This subluxation helps the body to overcome this stress but at the cost of a nervous dysfunction.
In the short term, this survival mechanism is effective, but over time, it becomes problematic, causing
- pain,
- visceral problems or
- a loss of mobility of the joints.
This is why it is important to regularly consult a chiropractor because only a qualified practitioner will be able to detect and adjust subluxations!
The spine
The nervous system is a complex network that connects the brain to all parts of the body and the spine protects this delicate tissue. It provides great resistance to shocks and gravity while allowing great freedom of movement.
The spine is one of the most important parts of our body. Without it, we would be unable to move or feel anything below our neck!
Unfortunately, many people neglect this crucial structure by sitting for long periods each day, which can lead to more serious problems such as back pain and nerve damage of the sciatica.
If there is an interference between the way our backbone If the spine is not able to protect us internally and the external role it plays in supporting the posture when carrying a heavy object for example and repeatedly, then we have what the chiropractors call a "vertebral subluxation".
To ensure optimal functioning and quality of life, regular hygiene of the backbone at your chiropractor is essential - it will maximize your ability to grow, recover, think and move!
"When dealing with the spine and nervous system, chiropractic uses specific adjustments to remove interference and allow your body to heal."
Innate intelligence
How the body heals itself
Innate intelligence is an important force in the body that goes by many names, such as homeostasis or life force. Chiropractors call it "innate intelligence" because it allows the expression of human life both at the cellular level (the ability of cells to communicate), and at the level of the body as a whole.
Innate intelligence is the driving force behind everything that happens in our bodies. It allows the mechanisms of growth, adaptation and healing to take place naturally, without having to think about every little detail as some people do when they are stressed or tired.
"Innate intelligence is a force in the body that many people don't know exists."
This natural form of intelligence is translated by our nervous system to help us in a natural environment where we can optimize this innate ability for optimal results.
The mission of the chiropractor is clear:
"to enable natural healing of the body by freeing the innate intelligence from its impediments by allowing the nervous system to function at its fullest potential",
which will naturally lead you back to well-being!
In this way, with chiropractic care, the body heals itself, naturally.
